I have recently just started my library media website. I'm using the google sites and right now I'm just sort of playing around with all the interesting things you can do with it. I've been looking around at other websites and I've seen a lot of things that I find are great to have present on the site. One of my favorite things is having a counter that shows how many people visited the library and how many items checked out weekly. I definitely want to add that to my site. There was also a school that included all these links for citation help. I think that would be a great thing to add to my site also. I'm still trying to a get a feel for my layout and where I want everything to go. I'm really nervous to start putting things in, but I think tomorrow will be my night to do it.
Before the reading and class I had no idea what a common school fund was. It's an odd was to fund a school but a really amazing way also. It was really interesting to see what CSF money can buy and what it can't and the stories that went along with it and how other teachers want to use that money. It's pretty awesome that there is a fund out there just for libraries because it's such an important aspect of the school.
"Make a difference in the lives of students and positively affect their learning." Making a difference is the one of the goals of being a teacher. The actions that a teacher portrays inside the classroom can really affect a child and their behavior and attitude. As a teacher you always need to be on your "A" game and leave the negativity at home, because for some children the school day is the highlight of their day perhaps due to their home life or other extenuating circumstances. Being a teacher there is a short amount of time each day to reach out to a child and make a difference. It's my job to do that to the best of my ability each and every day.
After reading the book and the discussions from class this week I have realized that there is so much more to being a library specialist then I ever imagined. There seems to be so much more behind the scene activities that I hadn't realized. I love that there seems to be so many options as a library specialist. I like that as a library specialist you have to follow the policies and procedures but you can also update them and make them more of your own at the same time.
At this time I don't have any other questions. I'm just trying to take everything that we learn in each and every day. I find the readings to be extremely enjoyable. The discussion that occurs during class is really helpful. I know I don't have much to say during class, but without being in the library I'm not really up to date on everything that is being discussed. Right now it is most helpful for me to sit back, listen, and absorb everything that is being said. I'm learning a lot from everyone in the class.
Louis Question: This class has really opened me up to using google docs. I've started doing all of my work using google docs and I'm going to be using google forms later this week and put a survey together for work. I'm excited to try to figure it out and see if I can get it to work. This week I learned about the common school fund which is so interesting. I thought the most interesting part about it was that private schools can technically use the money but it's difficult to go through all the hoops to get to it. I also learned that being a library specialist is no simple or easy job. It's going to take a ton of work and dedication to learn everything there is about the job, but in the end will be well worth while.
I would say that I'd be in the same boat if I weren't already in a library. There are a lot of things that we talk about in class that make immediate connections with what I'm doing/seeing in my own libraries. If I weren't, some of it might not make sense right away. But you're taking a great approach in sitting and absorbing it all in. I can tell you that everything we've been going over has been just gold. More than any other coursework I've ever taken, this seems to have the most direct-to-practice information that I've had. So yeah, this is all good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your trying out various ideas and layouts for your page. Be sure to ask when you have any questions. I'm glad that our readings and discussions are giving you lots of good information. And, I think your approach to just absorbing is a good one. But, please be sure to ask or question things that you read or hear in class and don't be afraid to contribute. I am sure you' will have a lot of good things to say and contribute. I'm also glad to hear that you are using Google Docs. I really like them, too.
